I joined the gym about 14 months ago – 6 ‘ 2 , 19 stone 4 , 44inch waist and with cholesterol at 7.8 I was not a pretty sight, For two years before I joined the gym I walked 6 days per week for anywhere between 2 and 10 miles and did not lose any weight. I went to the gym 4 times per week for 2 months before a friend introduced me to Neil. I thought I was the strongest person in the gym because I can workout and not even sweat – THEN THERE WAS NEIL !

Ten minutes into the first session I realised I was doing everything wrong. Not only did I not push myself but I felt as weak as water. After the first session I never looked back. Neil not only teaches me about lifting weights but also everything I need to know about diet in terms of carbs , protein , fats and water.
He knows what he is talking about ! I’ve lost 3 stone, 8 inches off my waist, cholesterol has dropped from 7.8 to just 3 ( the average is 5 ). I also feel fitter and stronger at 38 than I did when I was 20.

I don’t like the gym and I never did – I hate the pain, the hard work and all the sore bits – But !! I do like the changes that not only I can see but everyone else can see as well. I would still be 19 stone 4 if it wasn’t for Neils motivation and advice – look at him – not only is he exceptionally well built but also very very strong which just proves he knows what he’s doing. When I am as well built as him I will only wear speedos (even in the winter) ! My kids threaten to tell Neil if I eat their sweets so needless to say I wont be 19 stone again…………

I joined the gym 2 years ago to get my body shape back after having children. For the first 6 months I did nothing but spin class 4 times per week and light weights 2 times per week with a trainer. I found my body wasn’t responding the way I wanted it to, I was also carrying a bad knee injury thanks to all the spinning (so much for cardio).

I ditched the spinning and the trainer and found a better trainer in Neil. The weights I can lift now scare me – the difference in my shape is amazing and no I don’t lift pink dumbbells! The thing with Neil is that he keeps it simple so that you can’t fail. I have lost 35 inches, dropped over a stone and gained a lot of muscle! Finding myself at fifty, almost 17˝ stone, with high cholesterol and a family history of heart problems, I realised I had to do something about my immediate health which hopefully would also improve my life expectancy.

Like many people I decided to go to the gym. Apart from P.E. at school I had never been to the gym before. Initially I was given an induction to the various pieces of equipment but when left to my own devices I was unsure of what they were for. I spent many months doing a bit of this and a bit of that, probably doing myself more harm than good as I ended up with ‘tennis elbow’ twice.

Then I saw a notice up in the gym advertising sessions with a ‘Personal Trainer’ so I decided that I would have a go to see if this would help me make more progress for although I had lost some weight it was minimal. I was fortunate that the PT was Neil who turned out to be an excellent trainer and coach. I now look forward to every week to my training sessions with Neil and to the challenges he sets for me that further improve my fitness.

Not only have I gone from a 40 inch waist to a 34 inch waist but I have also built up my strength and stamina even though I am 2 stone lighter! I have confidence in Neil, he knows his stuff, and in turn he has given me the confidence in myself and helped me to achieve much more than I thought I was capable of.

I became a member of Fitness First in January 2004. Like a lot of ‘would be fitness freaks’ I certainly didn’t need any trainer telling me how to train, ‘get toned’, or lose weight. I had trained in the past using weights and I ran about 28 miles per week and lost some weight but never seemed to accomplish the shape that I wanted to be.

6 months later I had to reluctantly accept that I was getting nowhere and enlisted the help of a ‘Personal Trainer’. As my main objective at this point was to reduce my overall weight the trainer I had started with largely focused on aerobic exercise. This seemed initially to assist my weight loss but as I was watching my diet I was not convinced that it was the aerobic work that was producing the results.

I quickly tired of the cross trainer, treadmill and rowing machine. I wasn’t getting any stronger and my shape wasn’t exactly what I was after. That was when a friend recommended Neil to me. He said Neil’s shape will convince you that he knows what he is talking about in the field of Personal Training!

The first thing that struck me about Neil was the vast amount of knowledge that he had collated on personal training. I thought a Personal Trainer just knew more exercises than me but Neil knew not only everything about training and diet but he also regularly explained the science behind it all. When Neil assessed my fitness I was deadlifting 6 ˝ stone. Neil assured me that I would double that weight in 6 months. I laughed, but 6 months later I was lifting 13 stone!

At times when I am struggling to lift a heavier weight that was just outside my comfort zone and convincing myself that it was too heavy, Neil’s motivational skills would come into play and make me abandon my defeatist theory and now I continue to push for improved levels of fitness week in week out.

Neil also provided me with numerous copies of reports and investigations carried out by experts in the field of diet and training. These are usually provided to support a particular point that either I have raised or Neil has explained at a previous session.

I could not recommend Neil strongly enough to anyone who is serious about getting into the shape they always wanted to be. His vast knowledge in both training and diet, combined with his excellent motivational skills all delivered in his relaxed easy going, relaxed manner, actually turned the gym experience into a pleasurable one.

For anyone out there under the impression that they are too old to train I should mention I am 50 years old but thanks to Neil I feel better now than I did when I was 21!

I can do Chest Presses using 17.5 kg dumbbells – am I a muscle man? – NO! I am a 28 year old female who has put her trust in a man that knows his stuff – Neil McTeggart!

I started weight training with Neil in an effort to get in shape for my wedding on 28th July 2006. I had lost weight before by putting less in my mouth and killing myself on the Cross trainer until I was blue in the face but the programme that Neil has developed for me has really got results.

I have lost at least 4 stone and came down 4 dress sizes! I feel fantastic! I’m strong and bursting with confidence.
There is no part of my body that hasn’t changed in some way – even my feet are smaller. Weight training has decreased the amount of fat but improved my shape by adding some muscle. I’ve been the weight I am now and worn clothes at least a size bigger.

Neil has embarked on an uphill challenge with as much, if not more, commitment and enthusiasm than me – when I was finding it tough or complaining about the pain, he said – do you want to be a Princes or a Plum Fairy on your big day?
I have a whole different approach to exercise now – I go blue with the weights and use the cardio machines for a cool down.

Thanks to Neil I am going to be a Princess on my wedding day and this princess isn’t going to stop at that. Neil has made me believe that I can do anything – even chest press 17.5 kg dumbbells. It makes me laugh when I think back to when I complained about using the small 5kg weight!
